L. David Pye, President
L. David Pye is Dean and Professor of Glass Science, Emeritus, the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, NY.
He received both his B.S. and Ph.D. in Ceramic Science and Engineering from the New York State College of Ceramics at AlfredUniversity. His career in academe and industry has involved teaching, scholarship, research, and consulting on the fabrication, characterization and application of non-crystalline solids. He is presently visiting Research Professor, the Johns Hopkins University, Technology Advisor, the Sarnoff Corporation, and a member of the External Review Committee of the Savannah River National Laboratory. A member of ACerS since 1959, Pye is a Fellow, past chair of the Glass and Optical Materials Division, and most recently Chair of the Globalization Task Force. He also served as President of the International Commission on Glass from 1997 through 2000.
John A. Kaniuk is President of Zircoa, Inc., Solon, OH, is a member of the Board of Tri-Star Refractories and is a partner in BJR Sensors. He previously served on the Boards of North American Refractories, Intertec, and Skyteller.
He received his B.S. in Ceramic Science from the Pennsylvania State University and has been selected as a Centennial Fellow of the University. A past Treasurer and Board member of ACerS, Kaniuk is a member of the Refractories and Engineering Ceramics divisions. He is a past president of The Association of American Ceramic Component Manufacturers (AACCM).
Katherine T. Faber, Past President Katherine T. Faber is Walter P. Murphy Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, where she also served as Department Chair and Associate Dean for research and graduate studies in the McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science. She received a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University, Alfred, NY; an M.S. in Ceramic Science from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of California, Berkeley, CA.
Lora Cooper Saiber, Treasurer
Lora Cooper Saiber is a general manager of Du-Co Ceramics, Saxonburg, PA. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. Cooper Saiber is a past president and past treasurer of the American Association of Ceramic Component Manufacturers (AACCM). She holds membership in the Engineering Ceramics Division.
He graduated from Pennsylvania State University, earning a B.S. in ceramic technology in 1964 and a Ph.D. in ceramic science in 1968. Johnson is an ACerS Fellow, a past chair and member of the Electronics Division, a member of the Basic Science and Glass & Optical Materials divisions and the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers. Johnson served as president of ACerS in 1994-95 and has been the recipient of numerous ACerS awards. Scott Steen, Executive DirectorAppointed in October 2006, Scott M. Steen serves as the ninth executive director of The American Ceramic Society since its formation in 1898. Steen began his association career in 1985 and has held executive level positions for more than 15 years, most recently as Chief Knowledge and Strategy Officer for the American Society of Association Executives. He was the founding editorial director of the Journal of Association Leadership and is a frequent author and speaker on association management-related topics. Steen earned a B.A. in Political Studies from Gordon College, Wenham, MA. Donald J. Bray is Business Director, New Technology, for Morgan Carbon, Fostoria, OH. He holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering and co-Masters in Metallurgy and Ceramic Engineering from Iowa State University. He is a member of the Refractory Ceramics, Basic Science and Engineering Ceramics Divisions and the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers. An ACerS Fellow, Bray is a past chair of the Engineering Ceramics Division, and a past member of the ACerS President's Council of Industrial Advisors.
Richard K. Brow is Curators' Professor of Ceramic Engineering and Chair of the Materials Science & Engineering Department, University of Missouri-Rolla. He holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering and an M.S. in Glass Science from NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and a Ph.D. in Ceramic Science from Pennsylvania State University. He is a member and past chair of the Glass & Optical Materials Division (GOMD); past associate editor of the Journal of The American Ceramic Society, presently serving on the ACerS Publications committee and Panel of Fellows. An ACers fellow, Brow was awarded the Karl Schwartzwalder Professional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering Award in 1993 and the George W. Morey Award from the GOMD in 2004.
Edwin R. Fuller is a Physicist in the Ceramics Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Fuller is a Fellow of ACerS and member and past chair of the Basic Science Division. He is the recipient of the ACerS Ross Coffin Purdy Award and the Basic Science Division’s Robert B. Sosman Award.
Carol A. Handwereker is Professor of Materials Engineering, Handwerker is a Fellow of ACerS, a member and past chair of the Basic Science Division, former Associate Editor of the Journal of The American Ceramic Society, past Annual Meeting program chair and a recipient of the Richard M. Fulrath Award.
John J. Mecholsky is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Florida, Gainesville. He received a B.C.E. in Civil Engineering, a master's in Structural Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. An ACerS Fellow, he is a member of the Glass and Optical Materials and Basic Science Divisions. He was awarded the Karl Schwartzwalder Professional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering Award in 1984.
Professor of Materials Science and Engineering David A. Payne is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Payne is a Fellow of ACerS, a member and past chair of the Electronics Division and served as President of the Ceramic Educational Council (CEC). He is the recipient of the ACerS Richard M. Fulrath, Electronics Division Edward C. Henry, CEC Outstanding Educator and the Basic Science Division Robert B. Sosman Awards.
Sheldon M. Wiederhorn is a Senior NIST Fellow with the Material Science and Engineering Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. His degrees are in chemical engineering, with a B.S. from Columbia University School of Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois. A Fellow and Distinguished Life Member of ACerS, Wiederhorn has received the Ross Coffin Purdy and the John Jeppson awards. He is a member and past chair of the Basic Science Division and an editor of the Journal of The American Ceramic Society.
He is a member and past chair of the Nuclear & Environmental Technology Division, past president of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers and a member of ACerS' Glass & Optical Materials Division. He is a Fellow in both ACerS and NICE and is a recipient of the Arthur L. Frieberg Award and the 2005 Joan Hodges Queneau Palladium Medal.
